The dream team behind Bocca and Burrata, Restauranteur Neil Grant and Head Chef Annemarie Steenkamp opened up their third restaurant. Open Door in the space formerly occupied by the River Café at Constantia Uitsig. Open Door is proud to have Executive Chef Evan Coosner recently join their team. Constantia’s history dates back to 1685 when Simon van der Stel named his property after the daughter of the benefactor who granted him a farm nestled beneath a picturesque mountain range. The lush setting and moderate temperatures bode well for farming and van der Stel set to work planting orchards and vineyards.
Constantia is thus the oldest wine-producing region in the Southern Hemisphere – with an uninterrupted history of wine making that spans over 300 years. Having subsequently been subdivided into smaller farms, Constantia Uitsig is now one of a select handful of wine estates that together make up the Constantia Valley Wine Route. Once the setting for some of the Cape’s most loved and respected restaurants, as well as a popular Hotel and Spa, Constantia Uitsig’s brand-new restaurant, swung wide its doors in June 2015. Having renovated the old River Café premises, the new restaurant lives up to its name – offering a far more open-plan space, that at once feels both familiar and yet altogether fresh.
With a modern contemporary feel and menu, Open Door offers breakfast, lunch and dinner except for Sunday, only open for breakfast and lunch. Breakfast served from 09:00 – 11:00am, Lunch is served from 12:00 until 15:00pm and Dinner from 18:00 until 21:30pm.
