Fun, eclectic and just a little bit kooky, Quirky Me Constantia aims to bring consumers beautiful decor items to help people shape their homes into spaces that reflect a little bit of their own off-beat personality. Owner Ingrid Corbett conceptualises a large part of the products she sells herself and puts them into production here in South Africa, with the help of other talented local designers and craftspeople. Since its launch in 2010, Quirky Me has grown from strength to strength both in size and reputation, with stores at The Old Biscuit Mill, the Watershed at V&A Waterfront, and Constantia Courtyard.
Products from Quirky Me’s high-quality home decor and gifting offering are regularly featured in top local publications, including House & Leisure, Ideas, Home, ELLE Decoration and Good Housekeeping magazine. Ingrid describes herself as a bit of an odd-ball from birth, so it’s perhaps little wonder that she found her way into the design and collection of quirky things. She has always been drawn to stuff – and people – that are different, that standout… must be those years spent at Drama school, always wanting to make an impact.
In any case, a lifetime spent travelling the world (Ingrid was born in Chile and apart from living here she has also lived in Colombia, Venezuela, Germany, Portugal and Thailand). These experiences gave her a unique global outlook, and 10 years buried in publishing gave her access to the world’s leading inspirational magazines and time to page through them, all in the name of research. A multi-tasker at heart, Ingrid also still regularly take on freelance projects, working on anything from magazine publishing to catalogue production.
