Hike from Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens to Constantia Nek

Join the team from Western Cape Tours & Transport for a hike that will give you a new perspective on the Mother City. This hike starts at Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, the greenest area of Cape Town thanks to its position on the shady eastern slopes of Table Mountain. With about 9 000 of Southern Africa’s 22 000 plant species cultivated here, this is regarded as one of the greatest botanical gardens in the world.

As you walk up and up along the mountain, your guide will tell you about the many indigenous plants you’ll see along the road. The Cape is known for its hardy fynbos (fine bush), which grows here in abundance. You’ll also hear about Jan van Riebeeck’s famous hedge from 1660. He planted a hedge of wild almond trees (Brabejum stellatifolium) in an attempt to keep out the local Khoikhoi people. Look out for these trees on your walk with their huge, intertwined branches and a knack for growing horizontally.

Your walk will take you out of the Gardens and eventually onto the Contour Path. It’s a moderate and family-friendly hike. Walking shoes, sunblock, sunnies and a hat are a must.

Ziplining with SA Forest Adventures at Silvermist

Now it’s time to get ready for an unparalleled adventure! The expert team from Cape Town Ziplines - SA Forest Adventures will drive you high up into the mountain where you’ll get to zipline on Seven different long cables spanning across 13 different platforms. The 4x4 drive up is in itself, an adventure as your jeep climbs higher and higher up the mountains. Luckily you can rest assured, knowing you are in expert hands.

Enjoy panoramic views of the city, with a quiet only interrupted by the screams of fellow zipliners. It’s a mad rush that will obliterate all the zoom calls of the year from your mind. It’s also a family-friendly activity the kids from the ages of 6 and up can also partake in.

The ziplines range in speed and length, especially look out for the 3rd Zipline which they call the Ferrari. The last one is the longest and they certainly saved the best for last. Be sure to take a break from screaming to enjoy the idyllic view.

The ziplines are exhilarating and completely safe. The friendly and knowledgeable team will be there every step away with a word of encouragement.

Wine tasting and lunch at Constantia Glen

Constantia Glen is a little pocket of heaven on earth. Of its 60 hectares of land, only 29 hectares are under the vine. With its altitudes ranging from 130 to 270 meters above sea level, the vines along these steep slopes demand hand-picking. Only the best grapes make the cut to produce a limited selection of 120 000 bottles per year. This family-run farm returned to its winemaking roots in 2000 following a devastating wildfire. Try their four estate wines and you’ll be able to experience this unique terroir via your tastebuds. While you sip, the friendly staff will take care of you and your sommelier will explain why each wine is so unique.

The best part? The wines are served with a view! The view from Constantia Glen is beyond adjectives. The only thing that could possibly make it any better, is a serving of tasty food. Luckily, you’ve come to the right place...

Their food menu here has something for everyone with delicious options like cheese and charcuterie platters, Flammkuchen (a pizza and flatbread hybrid with a thin, crispy crust), gourmet burgers and Trout Rosti. You’ll want to linger here to take in all the pleasures of the senses the valley has to offer.

Cost: R650 including flagship wine tasting, lunch and water (additional drinks for own account)
