Constanita Glen
Constantia Glen, a family-owned boutique wine estate with vineyards ideally located just below the Constantia Nek, prides itself in making focused, ultra-premium, cool climate wines that are a true expression of their distinctive terroir in the beautiful Table Mountain Heritage Site.
Steeped in history, dating back to 1685, Constantia is the oldest wine producing region in South Africa, yet the small pocket of land today known as Constantia Glen, has a unique history. The property was acquired in the late 1950’s. The farming operation, however had ceased and the whole property had become overgrown by pine trees, until the late 1990’s, when it was decided to reinstate the farm with its fertile soils to its initial purpose as a wine estate.
Constantia Glen has always believed that winemaking starts in the vineyard, they took great care in establishing which varietal clones would thrive on the farm’s varied soil sites, and after carrying out as many as 160 soil analysis in profiles of up to 3 meters deep, they started their journey towards creating world-class wines with the planting of their first grapes in 2000. In 2005 Constantia Glen vinified their first Sauvignon Blanc at a neighbouring farm while adding the finishing touches to their purpose-built, gravity fed, wine cellar that saw its first vintage (and first red grape harvest) in 2007.
Undoubtedly one of the youngest wine-producing farms in the oldest wine-producing region in the Southern Hemisphere, Constantia Glen has come a long way from where they started. Today Constantia Glen not only celebrate their legacy but align themselves with a commitment to growth in quality through sustainability and integrity.
Constantia Glen welcomes you to their estate for an exceptional wine tasting experience and a tasty bite to eat.
