JEEPS & WINE DAY

10h00 collection by Jeep Tours from Accommodation to start at Eagles Nest at 11h00

Experience the modern history of the Constantia Valley, with some of the new kids on the old block showing how they like to shake things up. For this one, you’ll be reaching new heights (quite literally) while travelling in hardy Jeeps to see some of the most spectacular views of the area. Grab your hat, SPF and sunnies and be ready for an unforgettable journey with lots of wine on the way.

Travel by Jeep for wine tasting and a platter experience

The adventure starts the moment you set eyes on the modern Jeep Wranglers that will be your transport for the day! Jeep Tours Cape Town is a female-owned business specialising in adventure and custom tours. Their drivers are super experienced, professional and knowledgeable about the region.

Our first drive takes us on an exclusive tour up the mountains to an epic viewing point at Eagles Nest. Considering it’s one of the steepest farm’s in the valley, you can just imagine how remarkable the view is. Here you’ll have your first wine tasting and learn more about this family-owned farm. This view transports you to a whole different world! It’s so serene and peaceful you’ll feel like you’re worlds away from the city, even though the CBD is a mere 15 minutes away. This family farm turned into a wine farm after a big fire in 2000. They released their first wines in 2005 and here you’ll get to taste the wonderful fruit of all their years of hard labour and love.

Once you’ve taken in the view, you’ll head back down to the postcard-perfect tasting area. Here you can enjoy wine tasting with a bountiful cheese and charcuterie board. Stacked to the brim with baguettes, spreads and nibbles that complement the wine. Sip on white and red wines and especially look out for their Merlot, with the 2015 vintage placing in the Top 12 in SA in Winemag’s Merlot Report of 2020. Likewise, their Shiraz has won accolade after accolade and is perfectly balanced and flavourful. Just like the farm’s setting, their wines are distinct, unique and unforgettable.

Cost: R 1950 per person for Jeep + Driver (max 4 guests per Jeep)

Grand views and tasting at Klein Constantia

With the Jeep’s roof open on a sunny day, your drive to Klein Constantia will be a whole journey of its own. Spot the pot-bellied pigs, horses and sheep along the road on the farm as you make your way up to the dam. This drive will give you a unique view of their rolling vineyards. You’ll get to see where the wine you’ll taste later is grown. From the dam, you’ll have a breathtaking view of False Bay and the Southern parts of the Constantia Wine Route. While you sip on some of their exquisite Brut Cap Classique, with its soft mousse and rich buttery flavours, the sommelier will point out landmarks on the farm. Look at the different vineyard blocks and learn what makes each special. It will give you a whole new perspective on the wines you’re about to taste!

Next, drive back down to the tasting room where you’ll sample some of the award-winning Klein Constantia wines. With its beautiful stained-glass windows, wine cellar view and 250-year-old armoire, this tasting room is the perfect setting for a memorable experience. Be sure to stop by their gift shop on your way out to buy some of their wines and their exceptional keepsakes. Their body butter and honey comes highly recommended!

Cost: R550 for trip to top of dam. R450 for vineyard tour and MCC tasting; R120 for the signature tasting including Vin de Constance

Surrounded by fynbos and silver trees, you’ll get to taste some of their wines with their rockstar winemaker and viticulturist Megan van der Merwe (or one of her passionate ninjas when she can't make it herself).

In a male-dominated industry, Megan is one of the young female trailblazers changing the game. Her passion and love for wine and winemaking is so contagious you’ll be contemplating a career change by the time you’re done. She knows these vineyards inside out and is an expert in her field. She’ll be able to tell you stories about almost every centimetre of land.

From the ladybirds to the silver trees, everything has a story. Their philosophy is to keep things as natural as possible. They work hand in hand with mother nature in this heavenly piece of terroir. You can also taste this in their wines. They aim not to waste a single grape.
